IN THE PRISONER: In the episode "A, B & C", Number Six taken to see "D" by Engadine in an open-top sports car.

IN REALITY: In 1955, Alfa-Romeo were looking to further expand their exports. Turning to successful US importer Max Hoffman, they suggested the earlier Sprint model. However, Hoffman spotted the huge untapped potential in the market for open-topped sports cars. Pininfarina designed the Giulietta Spider in 1956, a model preferred by Alfa-Romeo to a similar car designed at that time by Bertone, after they had both been commissioned to offer some designs. There were 3 series of Spider (totalling over 20,000 cars) built between 1955 and 1965, most of which were destined for the US (as Hoffman and Alfa-Romeo had planned).
