JONAH JONES COMMEMORATED
Portmeirion sculptor Jonah Jones, who sadly died in 2004, has been commemorated with a pleasant and fitting plaque on the Hercules statue.
A particularly relevant place for the plaque, for although the statue was the work of William Brodie, it was at this very spot that Jonah and Clough would have their annual autumn meeting to appraise the quality of the summer and decide whether or not it deserved a plaque in its honour. Hence the “In Honour of its Splendour” and “Even Surpassed 1976” type plaques affixed to the plinth.
OTHER VILLAGE NEWS
The long-awaited Italian Restaurant, Cafe Glas, is set to open around Easter 2007. Situated behind the Triumphal Arch, the finishing touches are being put to the building, which will offer eat-in Pizza, Spaghetti, and Pasta (reminiscent of the Italian Restaurant which stood in Portmeirion up until the late 1970s). White Horses and Toll House cottages are having a touch of refurb/repair work.
